I joined TEDxLausanne in 2015 as coordinator of artistic performances and speaker coach. My theatre background was intrumental in the successful blend of speeches and art. I became co-curator the next year and took over the TEDxLausanne licence. Since then, I have curated eight editions, coached 25+ speakers across TEDx events, and hosted the event on stage in 2023 and 2025. TEDxLausanne is one of Switzerland’s most established TEDx events, and one of the most thoroughly prepared. Even as a volunteer endeavour, our committment is to the utmost quality in every department, including professional coaching and video filming of the talks.
Across the global TEDx network, coaching is uneven. Some events have it. Some do not. Some have one rehearsal the week before. But a TEDx speaker has one shot. Eight to eighteen minutes. A large live audience. A YouTube video that will multiply viewership. The quality of support we provide the speakers help turn a good TEDx talk into a great one.
We do not start with the script. We start with the idea. What is the single takeaway? What is the angle? What is the structure underneath the talk? Homework: a written outline.
Now the script. Opening, development, turning point, resolution. We make sure the talk lands as a story, not as a lecture. Homework: a finalised script and a recorded delivery video.
Delivery work. Presence, pace, memory, nerves, use of the stage. In person whenever we can. Homework: more rehearsal, with video check-ins.
Some speakers need five sessions. Some six. The method adapts to the speaker, not the other way around.
Warm-up session. General rehearsal. I am backstage. In some editions, on stage as MC. Right through to the final moment.
